Assam tea secures record prices at first mjunction special auction
Guwahati: The first special International Tea Day auction organized by mjunction services limited, India’s leading B2B e-commerce company, achieved record prices and met with resounding success in Jorhat’s electronic tea market.
A statement from mjunction services said on Tuesday that most of the best brands in East Assam like Hookhmol, Lankashi, Diroibam, Aideobari Premium, Muktabari, Rungliting Tea Estate, Narayanpur Panbarry, Durgapur, Tirual, Arin, Kathonibari, Friends Tea and Pabhojan participated in the Jorhat electronic tea market on Monday.
Over 93% of the total teas offered have been sold. Buyers had logged in from Assam, West Bengal, Delhi, Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Orthodox Pabhojan tea sold for a record price of Rs 4,000 per kg. The Diroibam specialty green tea was sold at Rs 1,000 per kg, and the famous Hookhmol CTC tea was priced at Rs 510 per kg – record prices also in their respective categories.
The event hosted by mjunction received a positive response from buyers and sellers. Assam’s Dispur-based aTea World directors Kamal Sharma and Pradeep Sharma, who purchased Hookhmol CTC from the platform at Rs 510 per kg, said: “With a shorter cycle time, the teas sold on the mjunction platform are the freshest. We have had our own package with the Shree Mangalam brand since 2002, and we are dedicated to bringing our customers the best of Assam tea.
The director of Real Assam Tea Industries, who supplied the Hookhmol CTC, Bhaskar Hazarika, said: “The tea plantation companies are the only private sector companies that have survived in Assam for two centuries despite all the hostilities. Assam’s tea plantations have survived the offer of nationalization, extreme regulation, land cap law, and unrest of all kinds since 1947, but we are currently facing unprecedented challenges.
Hazarika said the average price of tea in the primary market (auction) did not increase from 2012 to 2019.
Nazrana Ahmed of Diroibam Tea Estate, whose green tea sold for Rs 1,000 per kg, said: “Today’s special auction is of particular importance to us as we received the auction on the last day. higher for our specialty green teas.
Shangrila Enterprise’s Nilesh Divekar, who purchased Pabhojan Orthodox at Rs 4,000 per kg, said, “I appreciate the efforts of the mjunction team to provide such a platform where the best teas are available fresh and in small quantities. no problem.
Rakhi Saikia of Pabhojan Tea Estate praised mjunction’s efforts on the occasion.
“I am very happy that Pabhojan has reached a record price, and I hope the mjunction platform will continue its good work,” she said.
Assam, which accounts for about 55% of India’s total tea production of 1,389.70 million kg, has 856 large tea gardens and over a lakh of small tea producers, employing around 10 lakh of workers in this industry.
