Hotellings honoured: Hotelling family honored at Silver Creek | News, Sports, Jobs
SILVER CREEK – After decades of community service, a local family got the recognition they deserved over the weekend.
Wayne and Elaine Hotelling of Silver Creek were recognized at First United Presbyterian Church of Silver Creek on Saturday, November 12 for their service in the community and for the Resource Center.
MP Andy Goodell made an appearance and said a few words regarding the contributions of the Hotelling family to the county. The couple were introduced by Reverend Thomas to the attendees, which included their church family, friends and many community members. Desserts and drinks were shared with the guests.
“My husband and I felt we needed some form of recognition for all that we have done for our community,” said Cindy Eidens, a family friend who helped organize the event. “We thought it was time.”
The Hotellings are the founders of the Laurel Run/Walk, an annual tradition of celebrating people with developmental disabilities. The Hotellings recently announced that they will be stepping down from hosting the Laurel Run/Walk in the future, but the event will continue with the help of other community members.
The Laurel Run/Walk has been held 26 times since its inception. It was created in honor of the eldest daughter of the Hotelling family, Laurel, who had special needs.
Although her life has seen many challenges, Laurel has lived a full and productive life thanks to the support she received from her family, her community and the Resource Center.
The Laurel Memorial Run/Walk is a two-day celebration of the potential that exists in people with disabilities.

The event aims to raise awareness for people with disabilities while providing opportunities for people with and without disabilities to come together in a fun, family-friendly event.
Last year, Laurel Run/Walk was held July 15-16. It was reported as a successful event.
“I can’t wait to do it again next year. It was a pleasure as always” said Silver Creek Mayor Jeff Hornburg.
