Man arrested after fight at Kingsport gas station | WJHL
KINGSPORT, Tennessee (WJHL) – Police say a man was arrested after a scuffle at a Kingsport gas station spilled onto Eastman Road on Christmas morning.
Police responded to Zoomer at 1673 Fort Henry Drive just before 9 a.m. and found two men fighting in the middle of Eastman Road, according to a report from the Kingsport Police Department. Police said a man, identified as Mark Forbes, had a silver ratchet in his hand and was walking towards the other man, whom police identified as Michael Thomas.
Officers spoke to the store clerk who said Forbes parked and got out of his vehicle when Thomas said he liked Forbes’ car. Forbes then cursed the man because he was “homeless” and “bum” and entered the store, the seller said.
According to the police report, after Forbes exited the store, he shouted more insults at Thomas. Thomas threw down a cup of coffee and was accosted by Forbes, who repeatedly punched Thomas in the head, police said.
“At one point, someone grabbed a broom nearby and used it to hit the other person,” the police report said.
Police say a passerby intervened, but Forbes threw him to the ground, dislocating his right shoulder.
“Thomas then ran to the street and told Forbes to come fight him,” the report said. “Forbes pulled a ratchet out of the trunk of his vehicle and followed Thomas down the street.”
Forbes was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault.
