Register for the Territorial Charter Day Fun Run on February 12 in Silver City

SILVER CITY, NM – On February 12, 2022, Silver City will recognize Territorial Charter Day and Silver City MainStreet will host the fifth annual Urban Challenge Fun Run in downtown Silver City. The run is approximately 3 miles and families and serious runners are encouraged to register for the purpose of having fun in downtown Silver City.

“Last year we hosted a Virtual Fun Run and are delighted to once again offer this outdoor event in person. We had families and even dogs on the run in 2020, says Evangeline Zamora, chairman of the board of Silver City MainStreet. We want more residents to come downtown and see what’s here and it’s a fun way to do that and celebrate our Territorial Charter.

Silver City MainStreet collaborates with Western New Mexico University and Coach Macario Campos with sponsorship of the City of Silver City and Copies on the Run. The Urban Challenge Fun Run has a new route this year, which winds through the historic district and the WNMU campus.

The race will start under the downtown arch and end at the Market Street pedestrian bridge. The first 100 runners to enter will receive a t-shirt and the entry fee is three cans which will be donated to the Grant County community and WNMU Food Pantries.

Event coordinator Brenda Tozier said, “Coach Campos and his team at WNMU are great to work with. We can’t wait to have another great race and a fun day. You can walk, run or skip the course – it’s a fun race, and medals will be awarded to the first 75 participants to cross the finish line.

The race begins at 9:00 a.m. and registration opens at 8:00 a.m. at the Visitor Center located at 201 N. Hudson Street. located in the Visitor Center at 201 N. Hudson St. Phone 575-534-1700.
