Three suspects charged with attempted armed robbery in Silver Spring | WDVM25 and DCW50
SILVER SPRING, Md. (WDVM) – Three people have been arrested following two armed robbery attempts that took place on October 26 in Silver Spring and Wheaton.
Police say 18-year-old Angel Medardo Galeas of Silver Spring and two other minors have been arrested and charged.
At approximately 1:40 p.m. on October 26, police were called to the 12300 block of Georgia Ave. with reports of two armed hijacking attempts. Police said the victim claimed three male suspects approached her. One of them pressed a knife to his stomach and asked him to hand over his car keys.
However, a witness quickly intervened and the three suspects fled the scene. The victim called the police for help and started following the suspects. On the phone with police, the victim said he saw the suspects attempt to pick up another vehicle near the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Randolph Road, before walking away.
Montgomery County Police said, “The district detective who was in the area of the second armed robbery attempt observed three people matching the description of the suspects in the Georgia Avenue and Glenmont area. Circle. As agents from the 4th arrondissement began to approach, the three suspects walked behind a dumpster and tried to change their dress appearance. When the detective identified himself, the three suspects ran off. The three suspects were apprehended and taken into custody. ”
Galeas has been identified and is now being held without bail, the other two suspects have been identified as a 12-year-old man from Washington DC and a 15-year-old man from Rockville. They are charged as minors.
Police say the 12-year-old has been charged with first degree assault.
